My followers all know I am not the biggest poetry fan, but after reading The Wickedest last Summer, I was definitely edging my way towards the world of poetry once more. Then my autobuy author (Ashley) announced that he would be releasing this collection: Why I Am Not A Bus Driver, and once more, my interest in poetry was piqued.
This was a really beautiful collection, comprising of 40 sonnets. A collection that captured the honesty & truth of the last act of love: grief.
This collection reminded me that no matter how hard we try to fill the hole that death leaves in our lives, that there are never enough moments, memories or people that can serve to fill the expansive hole that grief often creates.
Love is often thought of as a comtinum, as something that exists as the basis to the human experience, but often grief is referred to as the last act of love. For me, Why I Am Not A Bus Driver reminded me that grief alters the way in which we love those who have departed the human form. Sometimes it is altered by our regret, our guilt, those unanswered calls or texts, & our life changing experiences with the departed.
Ashley, thank you for this beautiful collection.
Poetry lovers & those still healing through grief, get into it!
